About Veneers
Made of tooth-colored materials, veneers are thin shells that are custom-made to cover the fronts of your teeth. Veneers are used for:
- Permanently-stained teeth
- Poorly-shaped teeth
- Slightly crooked teeth
- Spaces between teeth
- Chipped or worn teeth
Veneers can be fabricated from composite resins, acrylics, or porcelain. Usually a small amount of tooth enamel is removed from the tooth to allow for the thickness of the veneer that is being added to the tooth. Because of this, the procedure is not reversible.
Usually, two or three appointments will be sufficient for the entire process.
As will all tooth restoration procedures, it is possible for decay to develop around the veneer. Also, over time, the veneer may become worn or even come off. In such cases, the veneer may have to be redone.
